Users now rely on these devices for business
and personal needs ranging from telecommunications,
sending
& receiving text/e-mail messages, accessing the web, taking
photographs, organizing schedules, gaming, etc. Needless
to say, lots
of functionality is packed into a quite small device.
Nonetheless, users expect to perform all functions with
ease, and thus, the need for designers/developers to rely upon
a user-centered design process throughout each development cycle.
Alucid has conducted a variety of design and
customer research related to handheld devices in the U.S. and
abroad. In addition, we have also equipped
most major cellular
phone manufacturers with tools and facilities for doing the
same. Our unique PCDC-4™
is an integral component to our own research projects and those
internal programs of our wireless industry clients.
Case Study Summary:
Alucid was contracted by a major cellular phone
interface design team, based in Korea, for the purpose of conducting
a heuristic review
of a new mobile phone interface, and to conduct
user test sessions in Los Angeles, CA. The respondent portion
of this
project
included user profiles ranging from novice to expert and focused
on features such as customizable ring tones and wallpapers,
camera usage, and instant messaging.
At the conclusion of this project, Alucid delivered
all raw and refined data, compelling video highlights, and final
recommendations in DVD format. Based on Alucid's findings and
recommendations, our client took away actionable results and
was able to prioritize when and how to address potential
issues with the interface.
