Inc. becomes Alucid Solution, Inc.…
As many in our industry know, Usability Systems, Inc. (USI) was
founded in 1987, by renowned user-experience researcher, David
E. Johnson. Mr. Johnson continually advocated and practiced his
passionate beliefs of the benefits an intuitive product provides.
Driven by his unique insight on how to attain and measure ‘usable
characteristics’ within a product, Mr. Johnson also authored
numerous evaluation and testing methodologies that our team continues
to utilize today.
Over the past two
years, USI has undergone a significant revival of our user-experience
consulting practice and software product department. As a result,
we’re updating our company name to more accurately reflect
our broadened ability to help our clients clearly understand
their
customers. On 01 May 2004 USI became Alucid Solution,
Inc. (Alucid). To coincide with our name change we have
launched the newly expanded website and offerings before you.
Alucid will continue to design and market the
world-renowned lab systems and related products that made our
company a staple in the usability industry. In addition, we’re
excited to now provide a complete solution whether your need is
to conduct testing of a new or existing product, or to equip your
own team with the most effective user-research tools available.
Our newly expanded multi-disciplinary team includes experts in
the fields of interface design, information architecture, cognitive
science, human factors and ergonomics, technical communication,
and an array of multi-media mediums.

Cingular hires Alucid for Retail Store Interaction Study…
In late 2003 Cingular Wireless, the second largest wireless company
in the U.S. contracted Alucid to coordinate and assist with a
unique and compelling field study. Naturalistic observation methods
were applied to a point of sale interaction study in various Cingular
corporate retail locations throughout the U.S.
One of the many highlights of this project was
the utilization of our Mobile-ULab™ as the foundation for
observing and documenting interactions. A team comprised of five
(5) Cingular researchers were provided with individual workstations
aboard the Mobile-ULab™ with direct video, audio, telephone,
and computer feeds from the store. This total coverage enabled
real-time documentation and monitoring of customer, employee,
and system interactions and processes in an effort to understand
‘how stores work’ and ultimately how to make those
same interactions and processes better in the future.

Grand Opening of the new Alucid Solution usability lab
in Atlanta, GA…
Located just outside Atlanta, the newly remodeled Alucid user
testing facility has received rave reviews from clients and respondents
alike. One-on-one usability test sessions as well as qualitative
discussion groups are accommodated at this facility. In addition,
private client viewing rooms with Internet, telephone and kitchen
services are included.
Our staff can provide respondent recruitment,
test facilitation, and multi-media deliverables for your project.
We can also configure the facility rooms, computer stations, or
other lab components to accommodate specific testing scenarios
or products. The location is very easy to find for observers and
respondents and is totally dedicated to providing a natural environment
for product testing and high-end comfort for our clients.
